Dramatic teal Natrual Turquoise Pilot Mountain Ring, with beautiful spirals on each side of the stone. Definitely a one of a kind piece! Remenicient of the ancient solstice and equinox marker called the Sun Dagger.

The Sun Dagger determined the annual solstices and equinoxes as early as A.D. 1000.

Early Native Amercians drew two of these spiral petroglyph shapes on cliffsides and behind three giant slab style rocks. One spiral smaller than the other. At summer solstice, a vertical shaft of light pierces through the slab rocks and hits the main spiral exactly at its center. On the winter solstice, two shafts of light perfectly bracket the larger spiral. During both the Spring and Fall Equinox light shafts strike both the center of the smaller spiral and the near center of the larger spiral.

Pilot Mountain Turquoise is mined in Western Nevada, USA at the Piolt Mountain Mine. The mine began as a copper tunnel mine in the 1930's but switched to Turquoise mining after discovering the quality and abundance. Today the mine is still operating on a small scale although, in the 1970's switched to an open pit mine.

The Pilot Mountain Mine produces some very high grade spider web stones in unique patterns and colors, including red, brown (most common) and black. The stones themselves range from bright blue to dark blue with a greenish tint. In fact the mine is is most famous for its ability to form dendrites in its Turquoise. Dendrite appears to occur randonly in stones unlike webbing it is less uniform. It starts with a narrow point and extends out to a sort of bulbus shape with smaller narrower portrusions- Kind of like a splatter!
